We wanted to do a summer collection for Unionmade that combined indigos and naturals in a new and interesting way. We started with the idea of chambray fabrics, indigo yarns, and ecru woven together in one fabric. Then we expanded the idea to knits and other wovens. Cone Mills helped us develop a new ecru canvas and Amhot Mill in Japan worked with us on new ecru and indigo shirt weights. The fabrics were summer weight, the silhouettes were relaxed with simplified workwear styling and longer shapes. Artist Chris McNally, a frequent collaborator, painted the huge indigo bandana backdrops for the lookbook and tote bags that were part of the collection.
